Jaguar F-Pace bags World Car of the Year and Design of the Year awards. Porsche 718 Boxster/Cayman wins World Performance Car of the Year award, the rather impressive Mercedes-Benz E-Class wins the Luxury Car of the Year title while the futuristic BMW i3 takes home the World Urban Car of the Year 2017 trophy.

Jaguar F-pace Is 2017 World Car Of The Year

The Jaguar F-Pace has been adjudged the 2017 World Car of the Year (WCOTY), as the winners of the coveted world car awards were announced at the New York Motor Show held from April 14-23. Besides winning the car of the year accolade, the F-Pace also bagged the Design of the Year award.

Dr Ralf Speth, CEO Jaguar Land Rover, said: “The F-PACE was designed and engineered as a performance SUV with exceptional dynamics, everyday usability and bold design. Winning these two awards endorses the talent and great work of our teams that have delivered the world’s most practical sports car and Jaguar’s fastest selling vehicle.”

Vehicles in all award categories are selected and voted on by an international jury panel comprised of 75 top-level automotive journalists from 23 countries around the world. Each juror is appointed by the World Car Steering Committee on the basis of his or her expertise, experience, credibility, and influence. AutoX editor Dhruv Behl was one of the jurors among six other auto journalists from India. Each juror typically drives and evaluates new vehicles on a regular basis as part of their professional work. The international accounting firm KPMG tabulates the jurors’ ballots.

The WCOTY awards comprise six categories in total, namely – World Car of the Year, World Performance Car of the Year, World Luxury Car of the Year, World Urban Car of the Year, World Green Car of the Year and World Car Design of the Year. To be eligible for the overall World Car award, the vehicle must have gone on sale on at least two continents between January 1, 2016, and May 31, 2017.
