JANUARY 2021 has not been a good time for fans of classic British Rail era electrics. The wholesale removal of the Class 91s from East Coast services – albeit temporarily (see Headline News) – has been matched by something of a month of the ‘long knives’ at Freightliner, as the Class 86/6 fleet has been reduced from nine down to two operational locomotives.
