Hyundai has a huge canteen at its premises in Chennai - after all, it feeds a workforce of over 8,500 people. Sounds like chaos, but you will be surprised at how clean and meticulous it is. We know because we recessed for lunch here while the Santro that we had seen taking shape out of sheet metal in the Press and Body Shops, had now gone in for a dip in the Paint Shop. Since the painting process involves quite a few chemical processes, the Paint Shop’s gate was the only ‘Authorised Personnel Only’ sign that we weren’t allowed to override on this curated tour of the Hyundai plant in Chennai. Interestingly, like the Body Shop, even the Paint Shop isn’t restricted to a certain model type or shade of colour. Our green Santro rolled out behind a grey Xcent and was followed by a blue Santro and it all looks pretty cool even on a surveillance camera! Candy shop kinda cool, if you want perspective.
