Same goals, vastly different routes to achieve them. The X5 and Rangie Sport slug it out

Head Over Feels

The Range Rover Sport. It’s got so much of history going its way, right? And so many very enviable words that are synonymous with it, too. A conversation about Rangies in general are bound to include attributes like ‘Dependable’, ‘Roomy’, ‘Luxurious’, ‘Tremendous’, and ‘Footballers’. Okay, maybe I went a little astray with the last one, but it still holds true nonetheless. Now, of course, the Rangie Sport’s been around for a while in India, but now it’s decided to mix things up a little. More specifically, Land Rover figured there’s a case to be made for a 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol engine to be plonked into the Range Rover Sport, all the while holding on to all the attributes that made it legendary in the first place. I’m a huge fan of the V6 and the V8 that feature in its spec list, but a 2.0-litre four? I don’t know...

Well, as they say, there’s only one way to find out. But, to make things a little more interesting, I brought the new BMW X5 along, the one with the 30d engine to see if ze Germans can steal a march on what is traditionally seen as the Rangie’s home territory. Should be fun.
