Auto Components India
|March 2017
The automotive industry players in the original equipment, service and aftermarket segments are making giant strides on the automotive skill highway. The main objective of this annual issue is to highlight these initiatives for skill development and to initiate a thought process at the national and corporate level for doing better and faster.
The importance and necessity of developing skills of the demographic dividend of India has been recognised long ago and actions have been under way. Now these actions are streamlined and strengthened under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). PMKVY is the flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), now headed by Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister of State, Independent Charge. Approved for four years (2016-2020), to benefit 10 million youth, it has an allocated budget of Rs 12,000 crore. The objective of PMKVY Skill Certification Scheme is to enable a large number of Indian youth to take up industry-relevant skill training that will help them in securing a better livelihood.
The key components of PMKVY are (i) Short-term training to provide 60 lakh youth with the opportunity to get trained, assessed and certified, (ii) Recognition of prior learning to align the competencies of 40 lakh individuals from the unregulated workforce with the National Skill Quality Framework (NSQF), (iii) Special projects to enable a platform that will facilitate trainings in special areas and premises of the government bodies and corporate, (iv) Kaushal and Rozgar Melas, to be organised every month by the training partners to ensure that the schemes reach far and wide and are successful, (v) Placement assistance to link the aptitude, aspiration and knowledge of PMKVY candidates to potential employers. National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC); Skill India; and Skill Management and Accreditation of Training Centres (SMART) are the other divisions of PMKVY.
NSDC
The National Skill Development Corporation, (NSDC) is a one of its kind, Public Private Partnership in India, under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. It aims to promote skill development by catalysing creation of large, quality, for-profit vocational institutions.
