What would South Africa not give to have the famous salmon of New Zealand, North America and other parts of the world in its own waters!
Not only would this mean a lot to the South African angler, but commercially it would be of benefit too.
In the countries mentioned, salmon are caught on a large scale each year and their sale, of course, constitutes a tremendous economic asset.
As most anglers probably know, the salmon is a species of fish that is equally at home in freshwater and in seawater. They are migratory fish who leave the sea and travel up the rivers to spawn far inland. With this little job done, they go back to the sea again – except, of course, the salmon of the Pacific, which evidently die a short while after the spawning period.
