We are deeply sorry to share with you the news that Sudha Kumar, the Publisher of ParentEdge, passed away on 19 November, leaving behind a void in the office as well as in our lives. A mentor to us all, she was the inspiration behind ParentEdge, and her absence will be keenly felt. All of us at ParentEdge are working to ensure that it’s ‘business as usual’—that’s how she would have wanted it—as we continue researching and writing on parenting and educational trends, drawing inspiration
from her ideas and vision. We thought that a story on sports and fitness, so essential for Indian children today, was long overdue and hence the Cover Story of this issue is on ‘What Sports can Offer your Child.’ We have narrowed this down for the little ones with a Young Parents’ Corner article on ‘How Little Children Benefit from Outdoor Play’. Good health is a combination of regular exercise and eating well, so our Practical Nutrition article focuses on the dangers of excessive salt intake. In the same vein, the Wellness feature explores a topic that has caused confusion and much debate—‘Vaccines for Children: Are they Essential?’ Parenting, while one of the most delightful things you will ever do, is often difficult and stressful, a fact that parents of teenagers will attest to readily enough! Find out how to defuse potentially explosive situations in our series of articles: ‘Communicating with Teenagers’ (Making Sense of Adolescence), ‘Does your Child Refuse to Go to School?’ (Everyday Parenting), and ‘Is your Child Facing Social Isolation?’ (Parenting Quotient). We have our usual range of articles around different educational aspects as well—a College Education Abroad article on ‘Going Abroad for an Undergrad’, a Demystifying Education article on ‘Understanding the Play Way Method of Preschool Education,’ and more...
