Martin Wallis looks back over the past year's road steam events and highlights some of the more interesting engines he found. Henk-Jan de Ruiter looks back at some of the old tin plate toys. Nigel Walton builds a fully working bottom entry displacement lubricator for his 3 inch Allchin traction engine. Graham Sadler explains how to set up your newly acquired lathe and prepare it for doing some useful work. There was a display of locomotives at the Bristol show based on prototypes by Olive Bulleid. Bernard North shows us around. Richard Linkins presents a pictorial record of the LBSC 50th anniversary rally at the Romney Marsh track. Rodney Oldfield completes his Middleton Inverted Vee engine. Chris Rayward demonstrates the manufacture of 5 inch scale versions of the rather beautiful tool chests found on Webb’s LNWR tenders. John Whale improves the drafting arrangements of his kit-built GWR 1400 by making a new blast pipe and petticoat pipe. Our cover picture shows LBSC's Rola at the Romney Marsh track. This represents LBSC's 'take' on the conversion of a big single wheeler from broad to standard gauge. The locomotive is in the care of Bobby Jones.
