We pay homage to one of Australia’s most impressive quilt stories of the past 12 months. Mariya Waters’ quilt Floral Symphony No 2 was almost not a quilt – until Mariya rescued it and remade it, and entered it into numerous quilt shows – both in Australia and overseas. At the last quilt show it was entered into, it was awarded a ‘purchase prize’, and the quilt show organisers gifted the quilt to the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, USA. Well done Mariya, quite the accolade for your wonderful quilt.
We explore the quilting journey of the 2023 Rajah Award winner, Jen Kingwell, and look at some of her glorious quilts.

You will find lots of inspiration with the winning quilts from quilt competitions and shows we share: Australian Quilt Convention Challenge, Australian Quilt Show, the annual Quilts=Art=Quilts exhibit in New York and the SOTA Red Expressions exhibition.
There are a few technique articles to help you learn a new, or brush up on an old, skill. There are two different painting styles – one from Denise Burkitt and one from Michelle de Groot. Pam Hill shares her process for using a photograph to create an award-winning art quilt.

Great Australian Quilts Magazine Description:

Great Australian Quilts is a one-off magazine that highlights five award-winning Australian quilters to showcase their projects. Each project illustrates the quilters' unique style and technique, inviting readers an inside look into the different tips and experiences that they have to share in their quilt-making process. Great Australian Quilts gives readers the chance to practice these artisans work with the sample projects available in the magazine.
