MORE THAN 100 NEW JOBS WILL BE CREATED ONCE OPERATIONAL

- By WILLIAM TELFORD

PLANS have been submitted for a huge care home in Plymouth’s £1bn Sherford new town which will create more than 100 jobs. In what is being seen as a “significant next step” for the vast development, the planning application sets out detailed proposals for a 72-bedroom purpose-built, three-storey care home that will provide specialist dementia, residential and respite care for older people.

The application follows a deal between the Sherford Consortium - the partnership of leading housebuilders Taylor Wimpey and Vistry Group and specialist care developer Mercroft Estates, a joint venture between Mercian Group and Barcroft Estates.

The planning application has been submitted to South Hams District Council and, subject to the planning process, building work could start in the final quarter of this year.

Construction is expected to take about 20 months on the three-storey building, carefully designed to complement the character of Phase 2 of the Sherford new town.
