Awards celebrate contributions to community

THE achievements of Penzance’s community champions have been celebrated at a special awards ceremony in the town.

During the town council’s 45th annual mayor-choosing ceremony at St John’s Hall on May 19 - which saw Cllr Stephen Reynolds re-elected for a historic third term - the Brian Spiegelhalter Citizen of the Year and Young Citizen of the Year were presented with their awards.
The awards were started in 2004 by the family of the late Mr Spiegelhalter, himself a former mayor, to celebrate the work of local people and their contributions to the community of the parish.
Nominations are made by members of the public.
