Teen arrested after fatal attack near bar

A MURDER investigation has been launched after a woman died following a suspected assault in North Tyneside.

Shortly after 10pm on Saturday, police received a report via the ambulance service of concern for the welfare of a woman on Russell Street in North Shields.

A woman is said to have sustained a serious injury following an altercation. North East Ambulance Service and the Great North Air Ambulance Service attended the scene by road and the woman, aged in her 40s, was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Despite the efforts of medical staff, she died a short time later. The woman’s next of kin have been informed and are currently being supported by officers.

A police cordon was in place outside Charlie's Bar in North Shields and the venue was closed yesterday. A number of police vehicles were at the scene with the road blocked off.
