CATS LOST TO BETTER TEAM, SAYS LE BRIS

A call for calm after Hammer blow afternoon

Sunderland's Brian Brobbey scores his fifth goal of the season in Saturday's defeat at West Ham; inset Regis Le Bris on the touchline at the London Stadium

REGIS Le Bris called for focus and progression after Sunderland suffered a punishing 3-1 defeat at West Ham.

The Black Cats were well beaten and were dealt a blow ahead of kickoff as captain Granit Xhaka was ruled out of the starting XI due to an ankle injury.

West Ham started brightly and asserted their authority early on, netting twice inside the opening 28 minutes.

Crysencio Summerville opened the scoring with a header before Jarrod Bowen doubled the hosts' advantage from the penalty spot.

Mateus Fernandes then added a third with a strike from distance two minutes before the interval, leaving Sunderland with a mountain to climb.
