Maritime stories and community in spotlight for town's culture bid

ILFRACOMBE is the latest town to throw its hat in the ring by putting together a bid to become the first UK Town of Culture in 2028.

Aiming to showcase the town's rich heritage and thriving creative community, the town hopes to be successful in the national competition launched by the Department for Culture, Media & Sport which celebrates the cultural stories and achievements across the UK.

The bid is being led by One Ilfracombe, a partnership bringing together councils, local agencies, voluntary organisations and community groups. The application is being shaped by their vibrant Culture Club, a network of more than 100 artists, performers, venues, councils, museums and cultural organisers, reflecting the strength and diversity of Ilfracombe's creative scene.
