Shopping slump is blamed on storms

THE number of people visiting Scotland's shops slumped last month, with last week's Storm Amy keeping them away.

Footfall decreased 2.3 per cent in September, year-on-year data from the Scottish Retail Consortium Sensormatic monitor shows, down from a fall of 0.4 per cent in August.

Visits to shopping centres decreased 1.2 per cent in September, year on year, while retail park footfall fell 1.3 per cent.

Ewan MacDonald-Russell, of the SRC, said retailers will be hoping things pick up before Christmas.
