Hot tub hell to HOLIDAY HEAVEN

Mortified by some swimsuit photos, Lindsay Lindsay, 42, and her husband found a healthier way to love food
-

Successful slimmers often talk about how they reached breaking point before finally finding the strength and motivation to overhaul their lifestyles. Well, mine came during a holiday to Cornwall, when, relaxing in a hot tub with a glass of Prosecco, I realised my stomach had more rolls than the pasties I'd been enjoying all week. I tried desperately to hide my belly under the Jacuzzi bubbles as my husband Chris, then 43, snapped some holiday pics, but I was mortified when I saw them later. It was a moment that changed both our lives forever.
Chris and I met in our 30s in 2015, and, from the start, shared a love of food. Dates would revolve around restaurant meals and takeaways as we got to know each other. We'd enjoy dinners out together, even travelling further afield to visit gastropubs or Michelin-starred restaurants, often complete with taster menus of many different courses, not to mention wine! As our love grew, so too did our waistlines. I'd always been a slim size 12, but my clothes started feeling snug. Chris put on weight too, but we were both so happy it didn't matter.
After our daughter Hetty arrived in April 2018, we didn't eat out quite as often, preferring to cook at home. Still, we always went for the easy option such as sausage and mash, pasta bolognese using a jar of sauce or a Sunday roast with all the trimmings. I loved toast made with white bread and lashings of butter.

Not feeling your best? Even if you think you eat well, you might be falling short of all the vitamins and minerals you need. Deficiencies are linked to increased risk of dementia, depression, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and obesity. The good news? 'It can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months for deficiencies to show, but tuning in to your appearance can help you to identify when something is wrong,' says nutritionist Jenna Hope. Here's how to interpret the telltale visual clues...
