Back in the day (the 1600s), René Descartes was a bit of a thinker. He not only managed to combine geometry and algebra to create analytic geometry, he also laid the foundation for mathematical biology, wrote “I think, therefore I am”, and still had time to propose mind-body dualism. This is the idea that the mind and body are entirely distinct and therefore can theoretically exist separately from each other. It's a Big Idea.
