The 10 best tech upgrades of 2025.
It was the year the hype cycle cooled and the fundamentals got interesting again. Consumer-tech makers focused less on flashy gimmicks and more on fixing the basics: slimmer designs, longer-lasting batteries, better screens and smarter software that quietly leans on Al rather than shouting about it. The result is a wave of products that feel more refined than revolutionary, but far nicer to live with every day. This top-10 list celebrates those thoughtful, real-world upgrades. The prices are recommended retail, but you may find a bargain or two.
1. APPLE M4 MACBOOK AIR 13-INCH
Apple's M4 MacBook Air doubles down on what already made the Air the default laptop: a slim, fanless chassis, sharp liquid retina display, and all-day battery that comfortably outlasts back-to-back video calls. Performance is a step, not a leap, over the M3, so owners of last year's model can probably sit tight. But the price cut and stronger webcam make it a sweet spot for students, writers and knowledge workers who want a light, quiet machine that just gets out of the way. Quality from top to bottom. Price: From $1999
2. OPPO FIND X9 PRO
Oppo's Find X9 Pro is the Android phone for people who care more about battery and camera than brand logos. Highlights include a huge three-day battery (with regular use), Hasselblad-tuned cameras with serious zoom and low-light chops, plus fast performance and a premium build. Its AI Mind Space feature is no gimmick, a great way to collate and search notes, receipts, and fragments from internet surfing. The catch is price: it goes toe to toe with the very priciest flagships. But it will appeal to power users, mobile photographers and travellers who hate hunting for a charger. Price: $2599
3. ARLO PRO 2K (6TH GEN, 2 CAMERA KIT)
