THE young intern mauled to death by a lion at a North Carolina wildlife center “didn’t have to die,” according to a leading animal rights group.

Alexandra Black, 22, was killed when a lion escaped its locked enclosure and burst into the area where she was doing a routine cage-cleaning.

A National ENQUIRER investigation has learned the Conservators Center facility in Burlington was not accredited by two of the nationally recognized zoo safety regulators, according to Brittany Peet, the director of PETA’s Captive Animal Law Enforcement.
