In ancient tales, it was said that Aandal lived for Lord Krishna. In Annakkili, a village girl lives for her lover till the end. That is the essence of this film. Annakkili was a landmark in Tamil cinema for exposing the audience to a different kind of original village music, which connected instantly with them and made the film a grand success. In Annakkili, his debut film as music director, Ilaiyaraaja gave such soulful songs which linger in our hearts even today. Every song was a super hit, giving a fresh breath to Tamil film songs. The predominant opinion of critics was that the film would not have been such a big hit but for its mesmerizing folk music.


Annam (Sujatha) lives with her elder sister and brother-in-law Madasamy (Senthamarai) after her parents’ death.
