It’s one of the most beautiful sailing events in the region – and one reserved exclusively for locals. The Al-Gaffal Dhow Race is a showcase of tradition, heritage and mettle.

There’s no event quite like it in the region. One hundred traditional dhows with white billowing sails race across the water, manned solely by Emirati nationals. The Al-Gaffal Dhow Race takes place offthe coast of Dubai every year and honours the pearl divers who helped established the emirate as a trading port. With many Emirati families tracing their roots to the pearl trade, the Al Ghaffal Dhow Race allows younger generations to keep traditions of the old industry alive.
