Council says rising debt's not a cause for alarm
September 01, 2025
|Western Daily Press
THE financial debt carried by Wiltshire Council has increased by £37 million in a year from £383 million to £420 million.

‘The 9.75 per cent increase equates to £812 per person in 2024-5 - an increase of £72 against 2023-4.
‘The figures were collated by the BBC Shared Data Unit using government sources.
In neighbouring Swindon, the debt was smaller - £395.5 million, up from £371.5 million.
But because Swindon’s population is half the size of Wiltshire’s, it means the per-person figure is £1,658.
