Wireless headphones systems are definitely becoming more popular these days.

Garrett Z-Lynk Wireless System

There are at least three other systems than this, all vying for custom as detectorists seek to rid themselves of the dreaded tied up in cables syndrome, as they go about their favourite pastime. I can’t say I blame them as getting tied up in knots while detecting is no fun. So, just after Christmas, I was asked if I’d like to test out a new wireless headphone system from Garrett due out in February 2017 called Z-Lynk. I agreed and was sent a preproduction set.

Z-Lynk Wireless System Kit Includes

• WT-1 wireless transmitter

• WR-1 wireless receiver

• Two USB charging cables

• Quarter inch headphone jack cable

• Mounting band

• Carry case

Key Features

• Freedom of movement without being tied to a detector

• Lightning fast speed of signalling

• Versatility – works with Garrett and most other detector brands (VLF and pulse)

• Frequency hopping technology – creates an infinite number of channels to prevent interference

• Extended search time – up to 30 hours on a charge

Charging To charge both devices it is helpful to use a computer that has multiple USB sockets, as two will be required. They can also be charged via a vehicle’s USB port, or a phone charger’s USB power block. I will admit to not possessing such a thing, so I charged via my laptop (Fig.1). Just as Garrett stated, both devices charged in five hours with the red LEDs extinguishing as they reached a full charge.

Lost and Found?

There have been several instances over my long detecting career where, not only has it has been a delight to be able to help people who have lost things, but also a great thrill when such losses are returned to their owners. I have several memories of such occurrences.
