Lost and Found?

There have been several instances over my long detecting career where, not only has it has been a delight to be able to help people who have lost things, but also a great thrill when such losses are returned to their owners. I have several memories of such occurrences.

One Boxing Day several years ago I had a call, “Oh please come to the farm, my sister-in-law has lost a family heirloom given to her.” This turned out to be a single earring valued at £1000 so my wife and I set out in the cold rain. We were told, “It’s got to be between here to that Oaktree on the farm track.” That was a total distance of about half a mile, so off we went. I will cut this story short because the glory goes to my wife for spotting the earring just lying in the mud. We received heaps of praise from the farmer and his overjoyed relative and both of us felt really happy to help.
