REAWAKENING
In today’s world, we may easily get overwhelmed by man-made tragedies, injustices, cruelty infringed against the defenseless, dehumanizing exploitation and all sorts of evils which may seem to rule humanity, leading us to care only for ourselves and those who are dear to us, while manifesting a growing indifference to the plight of others. Fear and indifference may paralyze our good desires to reach out, to help, to serve and to make a difference by living the values of honesty, compassion, kindness, mercy and love.
Both in society, at large, and in the Church, Pope Francis has been pushing us to be near, to show kindness, compassion and mercy to those who are at the margins, who are wounded, who are neglected. The Jubilee of Mercy aims at reawakening this ‘fire’ of mercy, to make our hearts attuned to the heart of Jesus. Therefore, it is not just a call to pious mercy but to merciful action that will heal hearts and restore lives, fostering peace.
