Steampunk has been called an art movement. Or a lifestyle. A vision of life and society. Or a tasty outlet. Give it a name. Steampunk is certainly a reason for a delicious kind of extravagance. It is the past, specifically the Victorian era. The age of steam, in the late 19th century. But it is also science fiction. A dream of the future, or a nightmare. The steampunker seems to be a rather happy creature, living in a time where he doesn't really belong. The clothing is explicit. Corsets, tight. Dresses in bright colours, with accents you can't and won't ignore. Big glasses, like the ones you used to wear on motorbikes, masks, the coolest make-up, hair done like a show, cogwheels as a style icon, clothing explicit and here and there quite feminine. Make-up explicit and sensual here and there, lots of grimaces, lots of creativity. Influences from early science fiction films, gothic and a Dandy-like lifestyle. Barcelona will be exceptionally happy to indulge in such things. Our photo special on the steampunkers, on them as people, on them in 'full action' is a logical consequence of this. Great to see, to do, to be. A kind of cult scene to enjoy to the full ...
