In this issue

This issue focuses on painting and profiles celebrated artist Eddy Kamuanga Ilunga, well-known for his canvases populated with hybrid, ‘sci-fi’ bodies, ideographic symbols, as well as bright swathes of “African” print fabrics, brightly coloured slippers and ritual objects. This is closely followed by an interview with Cape Town-based artist Zander Blom, which begins with a conceptualization of his exhibition Paintings and Posters at Stevenson, Cape Town.

This issue is by no means a comprehensive survey on the topic of painting, but a means of celebrating the new ideas and achievements, as well as the potential for development in Africa.
