The Angry Indian as the newsmaker 2012 The catastrophic events that have turned Delhi into a fortress during the last fortnight was the reminder that public anger cannot be contained by platitudes. Thosusands of citizens took to streets in Delhi to express outrage over the brutal gang rape and torture of a 23 year old paramedic student in a moving bus in the heart of the capital 's affluent south Delhi. The capitals citizens were joined by fellow citizens in all parts of India .The Angry Indian is not alone The fight against corruption at high places fight for a new lok pal and a very rigorous punishment for rape are some of the issues which has dominated the public space this year. So India Today rightfully names the angry Indian as the newsmaker of the year The others who hogged the limelight were aam aadmi party leader Aravind Kejriwal who made banner headlines accusing Robert Vadra and Nithin Gadkari ,two pillars of two important national parties. In Kerala India Today Malayalam has named the dead martyr of RMP TP Chandrasekharan as the newsmaker in the region as his violent death at the hands of the adversaries has a put a bigger debate on political violence in kerala. It has also forced to reopen old cases and created bigger debates. Kerala`s newsmakers include M M Mani,the CPM leader who confessed of killing three congress rivals in Kerala years ago,E Sreedaharan,consulatant to Kochi metro,Nambi Narayan,The ISRO scientist who won a legal victory against the oppressors in uniform and the state, Riyas Komu and Bose Krishnamachari ,the architects of Kochi muziris biennale, VS and Swetha Menon,who dared t allow her delivering a child to be filmed. The issue also has stories on sex workers who defied the odds and find an honourable life liker 27-year-old Saleena whowas into prostitution for many years .There is also a story on the poet-turned-director Roopesh Paul whose project Saint Dracula, which has now found a place in the list for Oscar nominations for best original score and original song. Sreevalsan J Menon, an acclaimed Carnatic singer, has scored music for the film. Mollywood has more reasons to be happy. Akashathinte Niram (Colour of the sky) has found place in the list of 282 films for the qualification of Oscar nomination. This is for the first time that a Malayalam film is selected to the competition for Oscar nominations.
