Our cover star this issue is — Ajith Kumar. The Tamil superstar, who describes himself as an accidental actor, has spent over 30 years alluring audiences. Earlier this year, he was awarded the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to the arts. Ajith is that rare thing — an artiste-sportsman. His life-long love affair with motorsports started when he was a little boy. He describes racing as meditative and therapeutic but also adds that it brings him out of his comfort zone, which he deems, ‘critical.’

The other highlight of this issue is our list of the 25 best films of the 21st century. It was an exhausting and joyous process, with each person on the editorial team batting for their favourites, snarky asides and judgemental looks tossed around, and inevitably heartbreak — because so many excellent films didn’t make the cut with enough of a majority. But all the hard work and heartache was worth it because eventually we arrived at a list that we are proud of — it includes greats from several languages.
