Preeti Aghalayam, Director-in-charge of
IIT Madras’ Zanzibar Campus, is a chemical
engineering expert, having been immersed
in sciences out of pure interest. At the
same time, she and her other family members,
equally immersed in sciences, are avid readers
and are well-versed in literature too. “Because I
am an engineer, it does not mean that right side
of my brain should close.” And exuding a very
fresh approach to subject and career choices,
Aghalayam says, “I am upset that there is a wall
between STEM and non-STEM. Each discipline is
served well by concepts of the other discipline.
