The question is, how does one set that boundary, humans
can still be in control of the desired outcomes of
technology.
Implementation of the National Education Policy
2020 was another discussion point. While speakers and
the winners featured in this issue applaud it as a pathbreaking
moment, they caution that the success of the
policy will depend on execution on the ground. “There is
an expectation of change but execution of change has
not been clearly understood. The present system has
far and few educators who have the experience and understanding
about establishing criteria asked for in the
document. The shift from content-led education to a
skill-based education based on conceptual learning will
be colossal as teachers themselves find it impossible to
bifurcate between both.”
The realisation of the need to make education holistic
and to involve the head, heart and hands of the students
for their complete growth, is another important strand
in education today. One aspect of holistic education is
awareness and as a principal of a winning school said,
“Practice and awareness is far more important that accumulation
of knowledge. Education should help people
with their ability to reflect critically. Reflecting not just
on the content we are reading but the premise we have.”
These and other thought-provoking ideas in various
realms of education constitute the subject matter of
this issue.
