Every June, I would start feeling the summer bummers.
I’m sure you’ve experienced them too. One moment you’re
happy-go-lucky, playing games through the day and eating
mangoes for breakfast, when out of nowhere, the thought
strikes you—it’s almost time to go back to school! The
mangoes don’t taste so sweet anymore, and playtime with
your friends only reminds you of how much you’re going to
miss it. After all, how can you have fun when there’s a whole
new school year looming?
Soon, your mom and dad nudge you to make a list of things
you need for school. “There isn’t enough time and there’s
so much to be done!” they say. Fresh notebooks have to
be bought and covered, new textbooks have to be put in
order, uniforms need to be washed and pressed, and fingers
crossed you haven’t outgrown your raincoat from last year!
But as you go about gathering your school supplies, the
summer bummers begin to fade. Thoughts of your school
friends and your favourite subjects fill you with anticipation
and excitement. What new shenanigans will you be up to
this year? What new things will you learn about the
world? And what new accolades will you receive?
The only way you’ll find out is if you embrace your new school
year with open arms. So go out there and give it a loving
squeeze. It’s waiting for you to make the most of it! ☺
