Desh 2 April 2022 issue looks back at the life and works of Mahendranath Gupta (Sri M), the recorder and compiler of Sri Sri Ramkrishna Kathamrita, on the occasion of the gospel’s 120th anniversary. The book, which has had a profound influence on Bengali society, stands out in its simplicity of explaining complex philosophical ideas with the help of metaphors, parables and anecdotes. However, beyond the inherent spirituality, the world of Kathamrita also spans a subtext of prevalent societal norms and colonial reality.
