Desh 2 April, 2021 issue investigates the antinomy between history and truth, historicity and meaning. Written history is neither objective nor neutral, but a construct that presents the historian’s view, or in some cases, it is a dialogue between historians. Power calls for histories that affirm more than inform, discounting alternative voices. Finding truth in history is therefore about understanding that truth is not absolute, but based on perspective. The issue comprises essays by Sobhanlal Dutta Gupta, Sumit Mitra, Saswati Ghosh and Ananda Bhattacharya. There is an essay on the poetry of Bishnu Dey written by his son Jishnu Dey and daughter-in law Meera Dey.
