The marine leisure communication and electronics market is using VHF marine radio augmented by digital selective calling and AIS, but it is now also investing in wireless connectivity solutions to distribute instrument and navigation information to consumer tablets and smartphones.
 
In this issue we also examine the challenges standing in the way of realising the Internet of Things; how business are using M2M for external, revenue generating opportunities and why Smart Cities should adopt common platforms for widely different services.
 
We also take a hard look at the UK Government’s £1bn Emergency Services Network and highlight just how complex and difficult it will be to deliver.

The transportation industry is increasingly using a wide variety of wireless technology. We interview London Buses about in-vehicle communications, on-board data capture and how it provides real-time location information to control centres, bus operators and passengers. We also look at how developments in radar chip technology are moving us toward the autonomous vehicle.
 
We also report on the latest in public safety and business critical communications including efforts to combine real-time voice, data and video into unified streams for control centres to enable faster response times and more efficient management of workforces and goods.

The need to provide robust mobile battlefield communications in a cost effective way has meant the military is looking at COTS options such as 3G/4G solutions among others. The eHealth market is one of the most exciting sectors for wireless technology. In this issue we look at: the challenges facing the UK’s NHS in adopting eHealth solutions; at turning ambulances into wireless hubs; how telemedicine can provide remote health solutions; and we examine the expanding connected health arena of smart medical devices, which are set to transform the way medicine is delivered and managed.

We flag up some the of the latest developments in professional mobile radio market with key vendors unveiling new products, solutions and case studies in NXDN, dPMR, DMR and TETRA, as the migration from analogue to digital radio systems continues.
