Welcome to the March 2016 issue of Popular Patchwork Magazine.

Our marvellous March issue is packed with gorgeous projects and fantastic features. Our cover quilt
 is Mandy Munroe’s Blanket Stitch Quilt. Inspired by the classic embroidery stitch it uses subtle-coloured solid fabrics to create a graphic effect. March means the arrival of spring, and we have some fabulous seasonal projects. Lynne Goldsworthy has combined elements from Chain Quilts and Dresden Plates to create a fresh and pretty Springtime Blooms quilt, and if you are looking for a quick seasonal project then look no further than the mini block Spring Bunting project from Ruth Lazarus. If you love bags you will not want to miss the quilt-as-you-go shopper from Judith Hollies. Perfect for making a dent in your stash, this sturdy bag is a handy size for the shops and will carry your groceries home in style!

We have a musical flavour to the issue with a project to make record placemats and coasters, an interview with a designer who took an iconic album cover and turned it into a personalised quilt and Ricky Tims chats about how his early career in music has influenced his quilts. In our regular Let’s Visit column Debbie von Grabler-Crozier takes us on a tour of Norwich and in Get Creative Gillian Cooper looks at using flour to create a batik effect on fabric.
We also launch our new quilt competition. With over £2000 worth of prizes this is not to be missed!

Bursting with light and loveliness, this month’s projects are a beautiful mix of styles and techniques, all designed to bring some much-needed sunshine into your life. Kicking off this issues makes with a distinctly Moroccan vibe, is the Kasbah Star quilt by Mandy Monroe. Creating stars from half square triangles, the result is deceptively simple! Debbie Von Grabler-Crozier’s Day Out quilt is another reminder of why quilts (like life) don’t need to be complicated as she mixes her squares with triangles and patterns with plains, to stunning effect. Lynne Goldsworthy has worked her magic and created the gorgeous Beachcomber quilt, while Judith Hollies has turned her talenteds to Rex- the ultimate dinosaur quilt! For smaller projects and quick make’s, we have the perfect Beachcomber tote, a rather cute Butterfly peg bag and the fabulous Ombre cushion.
Away from the projects, Julie Sheridan catches up with collector-come-designer Christopher Wilson Tate and finds out about his vast collection of antique quilts and his exciting new collaboration with Moda. Dispelling any outmoded beliefs that quilting is women’s work, American designer Luke Haynes is the focus of this month’s feature From Building Blocks. Mandy Munroe’s Village Playmat is easy to make, and includes a small amount of foundation piecing which is ideal if you want to learn the technique, but not commit to using it to make a full-size quilt. We also have a useful tote bag project that makes clever use of stripey fabric, a hand pieced patchwork box which would make a stylish addition to your sewing space, and a set of Staggered Placemats which are an ideal weekend project.

We are feeling festive in the December issue of Popular Patchwork! There are plenty of quick festive makes including a handy craft apron, Christmas bibs and festive fabric wreath. We have plenty of quilts too, including a beautiful blue and cream medallion quilt, a graphic design that takes patchwork inspiration from icicles and an applique project inspired by 1950s tree baubles. There’s also plenty to read including an interview with Linda Onions, a quilters guide to Pinterest, a behind the scenes look at how a Christmas fabric range is produced and much more!

We get cosy this autumn in the November issue of Popular Patchwork. Anne Williams looks at the history of wool quilts, and then creates a Harris Tweed quilt and table runner which are ideal for bringing warmth to the colder days. There are more must-make projects, including a Mondrian inspired bag, a beautiful curved pieced quilt and an embroidered thread catcher.  Our cover quilt, Happy Squares, provides a vibrant pop of colour for the long winter evenings.

The October issue of Popular Patchwork is crammed full of amazing makes and must-read features. With summer turning to autumn we have lots of projects to mark the changing of the seasons. On the cover is the cute and cuddly Woodland Friends quilt from Judith Hollies. Featuring sweet appliqué motifs on a textured linen background this is an ideal make for the home. Anita Watson-Jackson’s suit carrier is handy for keeping summer jackets dust free through the cooler months, and Regan Purcell’s Autumn Flowers throw takes inspiration from the season’s colours. The  July 2016 issue of Popular Patchwork is packed full of fresh new quilting ideas and afternoon reads. On the cover is Summer Starburst, a dramatic and colourful quilt designed by Judith Hollies. The June 2016 issue of Popular Patchwork has a holiday theme, with portable projects and sunny reads.

We have lots of quilts for you to make, including Rosemary Rosenfeld’s beach themed quilt, and Mandy Munroe’s hexagon throw. Both of these combine hand and machine sewing and so are perfect to stitching on the go. There is further inspiration from the sea with the first installment of the Aye Aye Captain quilt by Lynne Goldsworthy and the charming tug boat cushion from Debbie von Grabler-Crozier. If you want a quick and useful make then our sunglasses case is the project for you. Designed and made by Judith Hollies it is not only handy to store your glasses, but will also make a dent in the scrap pile. We have our usual regular reads including show and tell, finishing school, the latest quilting news, and Fiona Hesford takes a look at the work of the iconic textile designer Lucienne Day. There are two fantastic interviews; Paula Welland is a quilter who traveled around Australia and New Zealand and made quilts along the way, and Leslie Morgan who describes herself as an embroiderer who quilts and teaches in the UK, Germany, and Italy.
