Christmas in 2022 was very different for the Royal Family as it was the first festive season they had celebrated since Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed away. It also marked the first broadcast of a King’s Speech in over 70 years!

In St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, where the committal service of his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, was held, King Charles recorded his eight-minute 2022 Christmas message to the nation.

CELEBRATING HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN

It’s finally here! Part 2 of our Platinum Jubilee Special, commemorating all of Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations!

The four-day national event proved to be a spectacular success, hugely popular worldwide and united the British nation in these recessionary times when a bit of cheer was much needed and appreciated.

The event from Thursday 2nd June to Sunday 5th June marked the historical milestone of Her Majesty’s 70 years on the throne, and in this special issue of Royal Life we are proud to bring you all the pomp and splendour of this once-in-a-lifetime event, which included street parties, a parade, a star-studded concert and so much more.

A slight blight on the proceedings was the fact that Her Majesty herself chose not to attend some of the events due to mobility issues, even missing her beloved Epsom Derby on June 4th.

Having said that, the Queen still managed to steal the show with a Paddington Bear sketch that touched the hearts of a nation.

The twinkle in her eyes as she reached into that famous handbag and pulled out a marmalade sandwich was just priceless to behold. And watching her tuck it back inside “for later” was just the perfect ending to a special treat.

The Platinum Jubilee celebrations gave Her Majesty a chance to see how much the world loves and respects her. It truly was a wonderful celebration and we’re delighted to be able to re-live it with you here, in this very special 100-page collector’s edition of Royal Life, covering all of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in full.

CELEBRATING HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN

Queen Elizabeth II has been a British institution since 1952, mastering all crises, political or within her family, with dignity and resolve…

Queen Elizabeth II holds a number of remarkable records. She is the oldest reigning monarch and had the longest marriage in the British Royal Family. Even her coronation made television history: Never before had there been so many viewers, 300 million worldwide. She is also the longest-reigning British monarch to date.

Though recent times have proven tough for Her Majesty, with the loss of her lifelong companion Prince Philip, the Queen can be relied upon to face crises unflinchingly; as far as she is concerned, feelings do not belong in the public eye.

This year of course there will be not one, but two, additional days off for people in the UK to celebrate both the Queen’s birthday and platinum anniversary, with everything being produced on a grander scale.

On June 2, the celebrations begin with Trooping the Colour, a unique military parade that has been performed for centuries on the occasion of the birthday of a British Sovereign, regardless of the actual birthday date.

We will of course be covering the Platinum Jubilee celebrations in full in our next very special collector’s edition of Royal Life, but meanwhile we want to take you back through the Queen’s incredible 70 years on the throne, as we celebrate a true national treasure.

As you will read in this issue, Her Majesty has already attained the historic milestone of 70 years on the throne. To put this in perspective, it places the Queen fourth on the list of longest reigning monarchs behind Louis XIV from France, who reigned from 14th May 1643 until 1st September 1715 — a total of 72 years and 110 days.

Then in second place comes Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) from Thailand who reigned for 70 years and 126 days. Johann II, Liechtenstein also enjoyed a 70-year reign, but there’s every chance that with her still seemingly tireless energy the Queen might end up taking the top spot!

Hello and welcome to another great issue of Royal Life, though one that is also somewhat sombre in places because we report on the funeral of Prince Philip, a truly fine man who was the Queen’s ‘rock’ as they say in today’s parlance for 73 years of marriage.

In fact, she was just 13 when she first set eyes on him in 1939 and, at least from the young Princess Elizabeth’s point of view, it was love at first sight. She must be feeling incredibly sad right now, but being the amazing person she is, one so devoted to the service of her country and indeed her commonwealth, she has already returned to public duties as you will see from some of the news pieces in this very issue.
