Man Of Steel by MATT TUTHILL
Henry Cavill was screwed. It was another cold winter’s day on the Vancouver set of Man of Steel—the kind that makes it hard to get out of bed, harder still to get motivated to train, and for cavill, nearly impossible to move that damn barbell. He was on his final rep of his final set of front squats when his leg muscles froze under the stress of the 305 pounds sitting across his shoulders. He had dutifully pounded out three sets of four with the weight already, but at the bottom of the fourth rep of his fourth set, Cavill’s muscles flat out quit on him. His ass was pinned to the ground and his knees started to buckle inwards. His trainer, Gym Jones founder Mark Twight, who closely monitored Cavill throughout his Man Of Steel training, waited for his client to lean forwards and dump the bar to the ground.
Straight-Up: Chest by JOE WUEBBEN
Is it core day or chest day? Ask yourself that question. If it’s core, go ahead and do your dumbbell presses on an exercise ball or on a flat bench with your feet up in the air. Just don’t expect to crush your pecs and build a thicker chest. For that you need sturdy benches, appreciable weights, a reliable spotter for the barbell work, and maybe some loud music, too. Behold the following workout: it doesn’t reinvent the wheel and it probably won’t satisfy those who believe in the superiority of functional training. But it should, because it’ll serve one very appealing function: building a bigger, stronger chest.
Metabolic Damage by DR. DAN REARDON
Overtraining and Dieting. When people use the term “metabolic damage”, they are usually referring to one of two things. The first, and the one currently creating a big stir in the fitness world, relates to problems supposedly caused by training and dieting for fitness and bodybuilding contests.
Some of the most popular contest coaches in the world are now claiming that contest dieting slows down your metabolism and creates all sorts of post-contest problems.
