Triple Joy by JOHN PLUMMER No less than three pro cards were awarded at the incredible 2014 UKBFF British Championships. With a change to the rules, not only did the overall men’s bodybuilding champion win the chance to turn pro, so did the overall winners of both bikini and men’s physique. But along with Nathan DeAsha, Ruth Dales and Ryan John-Baptiste, a 5,000-strong crowd in Nottingham witnessed the crowning of more than 20 other deserving national champions. The quality of physiques on show lit up the stage like never before, with every class a hotly contested affair. As always, FLEX was there to report on all the action.
Phil Vs Kai by MATT TURNER Over the years, the bodybuilding stage has been home to some truly great rivalries. From Schwarzenegger and Oliva to Coleman and Cutler, we’ve seen it all. Or we thought we had. But in the history of the sport, we had never seen two Olympia competitors come so close to trading punches on stage as when Phil Heath and Kai Greene squared off in Vegas last year. Without a doubt, they are the fiercest foes in bodybuilding history. This month, we dissect their rivalry from its beginnings to the moment it reached fever pitch on the Olympia stage.
Back In The Game by ANITA NIKOLICH Last year, Roelly Winklaar came within a hair’s breadth of death when he came off his motorbike just before the Arnold Classic in Ohio. It was a contest he had been a favourite to win. When he was forced to pull out, it appeared his 2014 season was over before it began. But with the help of the back routine we detail here, Winklaar was able to return to the stage quicker than anyone could have expected. And although his Olympia didn’t go to plan, he picked up points on the European tour and is now ready to get back to his best.
