Shangliu Tatler profiles six members of China’s most powerful families: Annabel Yao, Katherine Gao, Iris Cao, Wang Lu, Melody Zhao and Huang Sun Chunxia. They reveal how they hope to continue— and contribute to—their families’ legacies.

Shangliu Tatler speaks to entrepreneur and art patron Liu Lan, who has been collecting Chinese contemporary art for more than 20 years. Liu reflects on how she has seen the market for work by young Chinese artists change over the past two decades and her friendships with some of China’s leading artists.

For this issue, Shangliu Tatler worked with Andrés Jaque, the chief curator
of Bodies of Water, the central exhibition of the 13th Shanghai Biennial. As a guest editor, he worked on a feature about how artists are inspired
by the natural world, climate and technology.

On the occasion of a major new exhibition of his work at the Fosun Foundation in Shanghai, Japanese architect Tadao Ando reflects on his career and some of his bold designs, including
the curvaceous He Art Museum, which opened last year in Foshan, Guangdong Province.

Chinese filmmaker Chloe Zhao stars on the cover of Shangliu Tatler. Zhao was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival last year for her film Nomadland, a contemporary western starring Frances McDormand. She is now putting the finishing touches to her next film, The Eternals, which is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In this month’s instalment of the Pride of China column, Shangliu Tatler profiles artist Wensen Qi. Born Vincent Cazeneuve, the French painter specialises in lacquer art and moved to Chongqing in 2009 to learn the traditional Chinese techniques.

Film director Cheng Tsun- Shing introduces his latest documentary, Like the Dyer’s Hand. The award-winning film chronicles the life of 96-year-old Chinese classical poet Chia-ying Yeh, whose writing reinvigorated China’s literary scene after the Cultural Revolution.

On the cover is Singer and composer Hua Chenyu, together with his Marsper—the designer toy founded by Hua, Hua released his fourth album New World this year, whose sales have exceeded 1.5 million copies so far. It’s the first time for him to be on the cover with this 2 meters high installation.

On the cover of Shangliu Tatler are artist Cai Guo- Qiang and investor, film producer and art collector Wendi Murdoch, who is one of Cai’s greatest patrons. The pair talk about their passion for art, their friendship and Cai’s forthcoming exhibitions, including a major show planned for the Palace Museum in Beijing.

Her old- est son is so famous that people often introduce Maye Musk, who’s now 72, as “Elon’s mother”, but in the fashion world, he is still just “Maye’s son”.

Artist Xu Bing stars on the cover of Shangliu Tatler this month. Solo exhibitions
of his work have been held at the British Museum in London and New York’s Museum of Modern Art and Metropolitan Museum of Art, among many other major institutions.

The Cover star, Zhang WeiLi, Chinese mixed martial arts athlete shows what is women’s power. She was once an elite female Sanda athlete before she began her career fighting for MMA. During her career time, she won 21 fights but only one lost. On 31st Aug 2019, in the UFC FIGHT NIGHT SHENZHEN, Zhang has defeated Andrade who was the Brazilian female UFC champion, as a result, Zhang has gained herself a Strawweight (115ponds) world champion belt and she has become the first Chinese UFC champion.On 8th Mar 2020, Zhang welcomed her first fight to defend her title as a UFC champion in Las Vegas. After fighting for whole five rounds, Zhang has succeeded in protecting her championship from Joanna.

March issue of Tatler Shangliu is the relaunched issue with new logo and new design. Thr unprecedented portfolio “New Asia” featured 117 of Asia’s movers and shakers, identified by the Tatler editors as the personification of cultural, economic and social power in Asia – including business tycoons Adrian Cheng and Chryseis Tan; fashion forces Wendy Yu, Veronica Chou, and Guo Pei; bestselling author Kevin Kwan; arts patron Wanwan Lei and artists Madsaki and Chen Man; award-winning chefs Matt Abergel, Andre Chiang, and Julien Royer, who were all photographed exclusively for Tatler’s relaunch.

12 young and beautiful ladies are on the cover this month. They all come from honorable families and are born with gifts. Well-dressed and going to parties are theirs daily routine while they do have their own mind in growing up their business and developing treasure hobbies. Besides their dream life ，they shared something unique about the part of themselves which rarely known by us.

On the cover is Eric Li. He is the founder of 37 Interactive Entertainment which is one of the biggest mobile game companies in mainland China. Not only being good at analyzing the environment of game industry, but also he is addicted to the marathon races. Elsewhere, he talked about the importance of high quality intellectual property (IP) in game industry. 

On the Cover is Yu Hong，one of the well-known oil painters in China. She started her art career when she is little, her childhood also impacted her pieces of art a lot .Nowadays she is not only an artist but also a professor in China Central Academy Of Fine Arts（which is the  first academy of fine arts in China. She shared her mystery on how to balance her spare time and work. Recently，she attended a virtual reality exhibition and presented<She Has Been There）which combined her pieces of art with VR facilities and show them in a digital way. With the coming of 2018 Hong Kong  Art Basel, we’re also looking forward to see her new works.
