October 2025

SONIC (Software for Open Networking in the Cloud) is an open source network operating system built on Linux, designed to run on a wide range of hardware switches.

Advancing Open Networking: Highlights from SONIC India Workshop 2025

Originally developed by Microsoft, it is now hosted and governed by the Linux Foundation under the SONiC community project. SONiC’s modular architecture enables flexible integration of networking capabilities, making it a highly scalable and vendor-neutral solution for modern cloud and enterprise data centres.

The SONiC India Workshop, sponsored by the Linux Foundation, has been hosted annually since 2023 at Microsoft’s IDC campus in Hyderabad. Over the past three years, it has brought together global presenters from diverse domains—including chip and switch manufacturers, SONiC adopters, telecom/cloud service providers. The workshop serves as a collaborative forum where participants share how they leverage SONIC to accelerate network growth, simplify operations, and contribute to the ecosystem or drive future advancements in SONiC.
