Brad Faxon, a multiple PGA Tour winner and now instructor and broadcaster, discusses his putting prowess, working with Rory and his coaching style and philosophy...

GURU OF THE GREED

Brad Faxon’s name is synonymous with one of golf’s most crucial skills: putting.

The eight-time PGA Tour winner carved out a solid career defined less by prodigiously powerful hitting and more by an unparalleled touch on the greens, which made him a perennial leader in the tour putting stats.

Going beyond his impressive competitive record, including two Ryder Cup appearances for Team USA, Faxon’s career has transitioned seamlessly into that of one of the game’s most respected voices and instructors. His insights into the art of putting have become invaluable and Sought after by aspiring pros and Major Champions alike, including Rory Mcllroy. Indeed, on the Northern Irishman’s victory march from the Butler Cabin to pick up his trophy at Augusta National in April, Faxon was one of the few figures Mcllroy stopped to embrace after his career Grand Slam victory.

Now, as a commentator and highly esteemed coach, Faxon continues to shape the game, sharing his knowledge of the sport with viewers on television. You'll no doubt have heard his voice on a Sky Sports Golf broadcast.

Faxon is also an ambassador for Platform Golf, a company that has already created groundbreaking products aimed at revolutionising the way golfers can practise and play indoors. The tilting green and adjustable hitting area integrate with other leading golf technologies to bring a fuller experience to golfers using indoor bays for recreational use as well as coaches for teaching purposes.

What do your think made you such a great putter?

I grew up organically learning the game. I had a dad who was a good player who introduced me to golf at about five or six years old. I started caddying as a young kid, around 12 or 13 years old, and the members at my club, naturally, would want the caddie to read greens for them. When we went out in the early mornings on a weekend, you could see how the ball broke on the dew lines.

TAYLORMADE SPIDER 5K-ZT PUTTER £449

The TaylorMade Spider family of putters has enjoyed resounding success across all professional tours and is widely regarded as one of the best ranges on the market, so how did the new Spider 5K-ZT model stack up against other zero-torque putters? The first thing I noticed when unboxing the club was its electric blue headcover, and, while it may sound odd, I think this sets the tone for the rest of the putter.

MOTOCADDY QB2 PUSH TROLLEY £219.99

It has taken Motocaddy eight years to replace its incredibly successful Cube push trolley. This kind of product life cycle is a huge rarity in this industry and testament to the quality of the original. So, 2025 finally brings the sequel – the QB2. Can it be the Godfather Part II of the push cart world (an excellent sequel), or will it turn out to be more of a Jaws II (a not-so-great follow-on).

HOW AI COULD BOOST CLUB PERFORMANCE

The prospect of AI-powered golf clubs isn’t just about hitting the ball further; it’s about a personalised, adaptive experience that could completely revolutionise how we play. Don't get me wrong, I'm not claiming to be a prophet here, as we're already seeing the use of AI on products like Callaway drivers. But we could just be scratching the surface.
