Panasonic Lumix S5 II
Full-frame mirrorless gets Hybrid Phase Detection AF system, plus a slew of spec bumps to make it a compelling proposition for stills and video shooters
The Lumix S5 II has been released two years after the original Lumix S5 launched and is built around a newly developed 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor and imaging processing engine. In a first for Panasonic cameras, the new sensor supports Hybrid Phase Detection Autofocus, which combines Phase Detection AF with Contrast Detect AF and 779-area metering, and allows you to detect and track subjects in challenging conditions such as low light and backlit situations.
Another key upgrade is Active I.S, which is designed to help users shooting handheld when walking or using telephoto lenses. But there's more to the S5 II than video optimisation, as it offers high-speed bursts of up to 9fps (mechanical) and up to 30fps (electronic), and a 96MP High Resolution Mode (JPEG and RAW).
