Junction upgrade 'not a priority'

NATIONAL Highways has no plan to upgrade one of the busiest junctions on the A303 in Somerset, writes Daniel Mumby.

The Eagle Tavern junction lies on a single-carriageway section of the A303 between Ilminster and the Devon border, just inside the Blackdown Hills national landscape.
The staggered junction which was named after the nearby pub, now the La Campagna restaurant - is regularly used by residents of Chard and the neighbouring villages trying to reach Taunton or Wellington, avoiding the A358 and the M5.
Improving this part of the A303 was recently identified as a priority by the Peninsula Transport Sub-National Transport Body, which brings together councillors from Cornwall, Devon and Somerset.
