Plaid Cymru leader Rhun ap Iorwerth has defended doing a budget deal with Labour amid criticism they have bailed their rivals out.

It emerged on Tuesday that the two Senedd parties had done a deal so the £27bn Welsh Government budget for next year will pass when it is voted on in January.

As Labour only has 29 members of the 60-strong Senedd, it needs support from elsewhere in the chamber to pass a budget.

The budget, which totals some £27bn, funds devolved areas like the NHS, education and councils.

There were three key demands agreed between the two parties.

If it failed to pass by April - the start of the financial year - initially only 75% of the budget would have been authorised to be used in the previous financial year.

The figure increases to 95% if a budget resolution has not been agreed by the end of July.

Plaid Cymru, which is ahead of Labour in the polls, has been criticised by both Reform UK and the Conservatives for helping Labour out.
