Jail for robbing school of £130k

A NORTH East school had to slash spending on pupils and make staff redundant after a finance boss stole nearly £130,000.

Kevin Enright abused his position at the school in County Durham to divert large sums to himself after getting into debt through developing gambling and substance misuse issues following the breakdown of his marriage.

Over the space of less than two years, he defrauded his employer out of £129,160. Now Enright, 46, of Sutherland Grange, Houghton-le-Spring, has been jailed for 27 months at Newcastle Crown Court after he admitted fraud by abuse of position between February, 2019 and November, 2020.

In a business impact statement, the school said their reserves were left in deficit by £84,000 and they had to make cuts and redundancies as a result of the offending.
