NEWCASTLE United CEO David Hopkinson does not feel the Magpies have made the most out of sponsorship and commercial opportunities.

- By MATTY HEWITT Senior sports writer

The Magpies chief, who joined the club in September following Darren Eales’ departure, has already overseen a flurry of change behind the scenes at St James' Park.

His remarks, in a frank interview at the Business of Football summit, make for interesting reading given that Peter Silverstone left Newcastle following Hopkinson’s arrival, having worked as the club’s chief commercial officer and playing a key role in the adidas and Sela sponsorships.

Hopkinson said: “Every system has its own idiosyncrasies, constraints and accelerators, things that, in our system, are sort of designed to keep the status quo.
