Derby rivals in high noon showdown

NEWCASTLE United's Tyne-Wear derby date with Sunderland will go ahead as planned on Sunday, March 22, following the Magpies' Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester City.

The game had already been switched from its original Saturday date and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports on the Sunday lunchtime (noon kickoff).

However, that would have had to change if Eddie Howe's side had progressed to the Carabao Cup final, which is scheduled for the same day.

Last year, United’s Premier League match with Crystal Palace had to postponed because of their participation in the final against Liverpool, with that game not taking place until mid-April.
