Build movement into your routine instead of relying on motivation. Decide in advance that you always walk at lunchtime, train straight after work or go out for 10 minutes as soon as you get home. When movement becomes automatic, winter has less of a hold over your mood.

ANUARY and February in the North East are rarely kind. It feels like the rain hasn’t stopped this year, with endless grey skies and hardly any daylight.
In weather like this, the temptation to stay in is huge. It’s easy to convince yourself that keeping warm indoors is the sensible option, another night on the sofa, another skipped walk, another plan cancelled because it's miserable outside.
Many people fall into a quiet routine of work, home, telly, sleep, moving as little as possible to avoid the cold and dampness.
At the time, it feels comforting, in reality, it often chips away at both your physical and mental wellbeing.
Physically
Doing very little during winter quick ly takes its toll. Muscles tighten, joints ache more, and energy levels drop.
