THE cheapest places to rent a home in Yorkshire have been revealed as figures show costs have risen by four per cent in a year.
Provisional data from the Office for National Statistics revealed the cost of privately renting a house or flat in November in Yorkshire and the Humber cost £838 per month on average in the year to November, from £805 in 2024. This also represents a 30% increase from an estimated £645 monthly five years ago.
In Yorkshire, the cheapest place to rent was Hull and Barnsley, where it cost £659 per month on average.
The most expensive place was in York, with the highest rental cost in the region at £1,145 per month.
The cheapest place to rent in the Humber region was North East Lincolnshire, where private accommodation cost £608 a month on average.
There was also variation across the different kinds of homes available for private rent in Yorkshire and The Humber. These ranged from £594 for a one-bedroom property to £1,290 for a home with four or more bedrooms.
Among the property types in the region:
A detached house cost £1,131 to rent per month.
A semidetached house was priced at £892 per month.
A terraced house stood at £829 per month.
And a flat or maisonette was £682 a month.
Across Great Britain in November, the average private rent stood at £1,377 per month. This represented a £57, or four per cent increase compared to 12 months earlier.
The figures are sourced by rent officers from the Valuation Office Agency, who gather prices from various sources, including landlords and letting agents, aiming to collect data on roughly 10 per cent of the market.
